Adam Tyson serves as  the  Naval  Information  Warfare  Center  (NIWC) Atlantic  Senior  Scientific Technical  Manager (SSTM)  for Decision Intelligence. In this role Tyson is the principal scientist over NIWC Atlantic’s applied data and artificial intelligence (AI) efforts ensuring U.S. competitive advantage with data and AI teams and technologies. The Decision Intelligence SSTM is tasked with turning data into better actions at scale for decision advantages across naval missions at all echelons, from the battlespace to the board room. Tyson spearheads leadership on strategic work for initiatives including Project Overmatch and Advana/Jupiter while supporting customer needs and services within NIWC Atlantic's Departments, Divisions, and Integrated Product Teams (IPTs). 

NIWC Atlantic’s Data Science and Analytics Competency is leading the effort to revolutionize Naval decision-making through the rapid delivery of disruptive analytics-driven, data-informed, and technology-empowered capabilities centered on the cognitive overmatch capabilities of a human-machine team. Recognizing the importance of data/AI in the future naval force, through the innovative work being done NIWC Atlantic has earned recognition as the Navy leader in building the right data/AI capabilities for the Department of Defense (DoD) and Department of Navy (DoN). 

Tyson has over 20 years of service successfully leading DoN and Joint Programs with demonstrated experience implementing data and AI technologies into mission systems. 

Most recently, Tyson served as the Command Data Officer (CmdDO) for NIWC Atlantic where he curated and managed all command data, designed the command’s data architecture, and developed data reporting and visualizations to inform command leadership decision-making. His leadership was instrumental in beginning the migration of the command’s data ecosystem to Jupiter -- the DoN enterprise data environment. Prior to that role, Tyson served as the Competency Manager for Warfighting Decision Intelligence under NIWC Atlantic’s Data Science and Analytics Competency where he managed a rapidly growing team of 100+ data-focused scientists and engineers, assigned across multiple NIWC Atlantic IPTs. 

Tyson previously served as the Technical Lead for the Expeditionary (Ex) Intelligence Technology Improvement, Innovation & Quick Reaction Capability (ITIIQRC) IPT from 2014 to 2016. In the 10 years prior, he served as IPT Lead and Technical Lead for Naval Tactical Cloud from 2010 to 2013; Project and Technical Lead for the Navy’s TURBULENTWAVE system from 2006 to 2009; and Software Developer for the Army Prophet and Triton systems and the Marine Corps Technical Control and Analysis Center (TCAC) SIGINT Data Transfer (SDT) systems from 2004-2006.
