Executive Officer
Commander Brian R. Baker serves as the Executive Office (XO) for Naval Information Warfare Center (NIWC) Atlantic. Previously, Baker was assigned as the Assistant Chief of Staff, N6 Expeditionary Strike Group Seven.
Originally from Witts Springs, Arkansas, he enlisted into the Navy Nuclear Power Program as an Electricians Mate in 1997. The following year, he was appointed to the U.S. Naval Academy Preparatory School and in 2003 commissioned as a Naval Submarine Officer from the U.S. Naval Academy with a Bachelor of Science in economics.
Baker holds a Masters Degree in space system operations from the Naval Post Graduate School, and is a qualified Surface Warfare Officer and Information Warfare Officer. Additionally, he is a member of the Certified Information Systems Security Professional program.
Baker’s sea assignments include Electrical Officer aboard the USS Nevada (SSBN 733) (Gold), Communications Officer, Information Systems Officer, and Electronic Keymat Management System Manager aboard the USS Green Bay (LPD 20), Combat Systems Information Officer aboard the USS Gerald R. Ford (CVN 78), and Assistant Chief of Staff, N6 for Expeditionary Strike Group Seven embarked on USS America (LHA 6).
Baker’s assignments ashore include: Strategic Communications Officer (Kenya); Combined Joint Task Force (Horn of Africa); Assistant N6, Strike Group Oceanography Team (San Diego, California); the Naval Post Graduate School, Officer-In-Charge Naval Computer and Telecommunications Diego Garcia (British Indian Ocean Territory); and U.S. Northern Command.
Baker’s decorations include: Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Navy Commendation Medal, Navy & Marine Corps Achievement Medal, and various campaign and service medals.
