NIWC Atlantic Celebrates the Navy's 248th Birthday
Members of the workforce gathered in Hampton Roads, Charleston, and NOLA to commemorate the Navy's 248 years on Friday, 13 October 2023. The commemoration featured the signing of the National Anthem by LSC Jaqueline Tuazon; keynote speaker Matthew Headrick, the Military Educator for the Hampton Roads Naval Museum in Norfolk; a traditional bell ringing; the singing of Anchors Aweigh from four of our newly pinned CPOs; and a cake cutting featuring the oldest and youngest Sailors in NOLA (Oldest - Officer-In-Charge CDR Manuel Biascoechea: Born In Nov 1976; Entered the Navy in Sep 1998; Youngest - PS1 Reggie Reyes: Born In July 1990; Entered the Navy in March 2012); Charleston (Oldest - ET1 Jeffrey Hart: Born In Oct 1974; Entered the Navy in Nov 2004, and Youngest - IT1 Noah Sadler: Born In June 1998; Entered the Navy in Aug 2016), and Hampton Roads (Oldest - LS1 Dorian Walker born In Jan 1973; Entered the Navy in Oct 2003; and Youngest - OS2 Evelyn Nguyen: Born Dec 1996; Entered the Navy in Sep 2015), with each participating in that portion of the ceremony from their respective site location. Additionally, YN2 Andrew French was recognized as NAVWAR Junior Sailor of the (3rd) Quarter and received a Meritorious Advancement Promotion (MAP) to Petty Officer 1st Class at the end of the ceremony - a complete surprise to YN2 and a meaningful moment to share with the NIWC Atlantic team. Happy 248th Birthday Navy!
