Charleston's annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day Parade
Members of the NIWC Atlantic team gathered in downtown Charleston to participate in the town’s inaugural Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Parade Jan. 15. Hosted by The YWCA of Greater Charleston, the parade featured marching bands, church groups, and community leaders who honored Dr. King's legacy and the impact he made in history. NIWC Atlantic was 18th in the parade line up. NIWC Atlantic Executive Director Peter Reddy and Deputy Executive Director Mr. Kevin Charlow led the NIWC Atlantic team who marched and distributed candy to kids along the way. Many other NIWC Atlantic employees greeted the marchers from the viewing crowd that lined the streets along the route. “We are so grateful for those who represented NIWC Atlantic in the Charleston MLK Day Parade,” said Amanda Patterson-Womble, NIWC Atlantic's African American/Black Employment Team chair. “It was a beautiful day to honor a man who sacrificed his life for the benefit of his country and countrymen. We’re thankful for the opportunity to honor Dr. King!”
