CHARLESTON, S.C. — Naval Information Warfare Center (NIWC) Atlantic will host a routine, pre-planned technology exercise in the Charleston Harbor and on Sullivan’s Island from March 9-12 and March 16-19, 2026 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
This annual event, known as the System of Systems Naval Integration Experiment (SOSNIE), is designed to test and evaluate advanced technologies to enhance naval readiness. This is a long-scheduled annual training exercise and is not in response to any real-world events or current military operations.
Residents and visitors may observe a variety of research and development activities during this period. To increase public awareness and prevent alarm, the community can expect to see:
For the safety of the public and the integrity of the evaluation, the community is requested to maintain a safe distance and not to approach or interfere with any personnel, equipment, or vessels involved in the exercise.
These routine testing activities are conducted in a manner that ensures public safety and are not expected to interfere with local electronic communications.
