Air Traffic Control & Polar Program Media Day Invite

On January 17, Naval Information Warfare Center (NIWC) Atlantic will open their doors to local media for an Air Traffic Control (ATC) and Polar Program Media Day to learn more about NIWC Atlantic’s mission, tour facilities and interview subject matter experts.
CHARLESTON, S.C. – On January 17, Naval Information Warfare Center (NIWC) Atlantic will open their doors to local media for an Air Traffic Control (ATC) and Polar Program Media Day to learn more about NIWC Atlantic’s mission, tour facilities and interview subject matter experts. Through the ATC and Polar Programs, NIWC Atlantic employees have provided meteorology services, air traffic control, systems engineering and maintenance, ground electronics maintenance, information technology/security and operational logistics support in Antarctica.
ATC & Polar Program Media Day Agenda:
Interview opportunity with Capt. Nicole Nigro, commanding officer, and Mr. Peter Reddy, executive director, about NIWC Atlantic support to Sailors and Marines
General overview of the ATC and Polar Programs with opportunity to interview subject matter experts
Tour the ATC and Polar Programs facilities with the opportunity to interview subject matter experts in Antarctica
ATC & Polar Program Media Day will be from 1:00 p.m.-2:30 p.m. Transportation on and off the base will be provided to escort media. An RSVP is required as badging will have to be provided. Please RSVP to Sara Corbett,

NIWC Atlantic addresses the Warfighter’s top technology challenges through research, development, delivery, and sustainment of the very best in Information Warfare solutions, with the majority of the work conducted on the Naval Weapons Station at Joint Base Charleston. NIWC Atlantic is comprised of more than 4,900 government civilians, 120 military personnel and nearly 9,000 contractors with 12 world-wide locations to provide support to the fleet 24/7. Additionally, NIWC Atlantic has a vast local footprint, with 17,800 jobs created and $3.2 billion in economic activity, according to a 2023 study by the University of South Carolina.
NIWC Atlantic, formerly known as Space and Naval Warfare (SPAWAR) Systems Center, has been a vital part of the Charleston community and economy for nearly 40 years, but not many people are aware of the critical support and technical solutions delivered to Sailors and Marines around the world.
